In order to govern people well a person must understand and love all people, not just those "like me". Elders are those who know themselves (body, mind, emotions and spirit), are able to see the world through the eyes of another and live knowing they are part of the larger community of life.

• Congruent: Walk their talk. Unity of words, thoughts and actions.
• Allowing: Acceptance and non-judgment of all human experiences
• Compassionate: Love of self and others
• Independent: Speak and accept multiple truths regardless of opposition
• Grounded: Able to handle their own basic needs
• Powerful: Able to use force when needed and live mostly without it.
• Creator: Willing to make mistakes
• Participant: Do not fear pain or death
• Humble: Willing to be wrong
