Current System System Purpose - Personal Power
Our current political paradigm, Capitalism, is designed to explore and facilitate experiences of personal power. Free markets, Olympics and war are great "playgrounds" to test questions like - "Can I do this? Can we do that? How fast? How far? Against whom?". Capitalism supports only external power (social success) because it deals only with success relative to others. By definition this creates the win-lose paradigm. In such a system devoted to personal power the use of power for personal agendas is not only inevitable - it is the whole point!
System Need - Infinite Growth
In order to grow in external power an individual, or nation, must have more of it than others. More, bigger, faster, stronger creates an insatiable drive to expand which is at the core of capitalism. Without continual growth capitalism, like any other pyramid scheme, would collapse. The system, and those who like it, can therefore not allow thoughts that would challenge this core belief - questions like "What or who are we growing for?", or "What are the costs of growth?"
Our eco system can no longer afford the "story" of infinite growth. Without a change we will grow beyond our means and collapse. Capitalism can not question infinite growth because it needs infinite growth to survive and no unconscious system will ever promote its own death... |
